"When I grew up in Africa..."
―Sarmoti[src]
"Everybody, gather 'round. I-- I have something I wanna say. Now you know I love show business. But this family has always been the most important thing in my life. Kate, you're my rock and my inspiration. Sierra and Hunter, you're what I get up for everyday. And Larry, I know I give ya a hard time, but... there's a lot I can learn from you. (Sighs) I... I love you all."
―Sarmoti to his family[src]

Sarmoti is the main antagonist of Father of the Pride. He is Larry's arch-nemesis and father-in-law, Kate's father, Sierra and Hunter's grandfather, Bernie's boss and best friend, and the former star of Siegfried and Roy's show.

Biography[]

Sarmoti is Kate's father who is not fond of his son-in-law Larry. Whenever he gets a chance, he often enjoys making fun of Larry and he takes it upon himself to mentor Hunter.

Sarmoti was born and raised in Africa. Other than this, not much else is known about him.

Personality[]

Sarmoti is jealous of Larry and tends to harass and yell at him a lot, claiming to hate him. However, he does genuinely care for the family. He loves Kate, Sierra, and Hunter and is rather protective of his pride. He is disappointed with Kate for marrying Larry, thinking she could have done much better. He even tells Larry in "Larry's Debut and Sweet Darryl Hannah Too" that if he was his own son, he would be pretty disappointed, but would make do.

He is sometimes a bit arrogant, self-righteous, and self-assured. He is something of a braggart, praising himself and degrading Larry for not being born in Africa and never fails to spot an opportunity to remind him about it. Sarmoti loves objectifying young women, drinking alcohol, teaching Hunter different things (particularly masculinity and bravery), and playing poker with his friends.

Sarmoti fancies himself the feline member of the Rat Pack.

He also likes to sing and dance as shown in "Sarmoti Moves In."

Sarmoti has a manipulative, tricky side, such as when he purposely convinced Larry in "The Siegfried and Roy Fantasy Experience Movie" to forbid Kate from going to her women's group if he does not like it, saying the men laid down the law back in his day. Later, after it fails, Sarmoti reveals to Larry that because he hates him, he will not give him good advice.

In "The Thanksgiving Episode," he is shown to be prejudiced towards turkeys. When his grandfather's pocket watch goes missing, he quickly accuses the turkeys. Ultimately, Sarmoti shows remorse for blaming the turkeys after the culprit Stan is revealed.

Despite his antagonistic, grumpy behavior, Sarmoti has a softer side as he does not completely hate Larry and has actually helped him before (such as in "Road Trip"). He also tries to help Hunter stand up for himself (albeit through traumatizing ways).

Appearance[]

Sarmoti is a slender white lion with a tan mane. He has blue eyes.

As a younger adult, he had a full mane when working on Siegfried and Roy's show ever since his debut. However, due to aging, he became bald and had to wear a wig onstage (a reference to Alan Brady from The Dick Van Dyke Show) before retiring.

Trivia[]

  • Sarmoti is sometimes thought to be the secondary and tertiary antagonist of the series. This is not true as he is a prominent character in the series and drives the story of most episodes, though Blake's actions are sometimes more unlikable.
  • Sarmoti is not a true villain (as he has never done anything necessarily evil), but more of an anti-hero.
  • Another reason for Sarmoti being the antagonist is due to him driving most of the synopsis.
  • His name is the initials for Siegfried And Roy, Master Of The Impossible.
    • His name is also used as a magic word.
  • Sarmoti sometimes carries a cane.
  • Sarmoti is a fan of Sammy Davis, Jr. He once said in "Stage Fright" that he misses him.
  • He is also a fan of Bing Crosby.
  • Sarmoti is said to have slept with every female woman in the compound, regardless of species.
  • Following the death of his voice actor Carl Reiner, many fans have demanded the series not only be revived, but use pre-recorded material of Reiner for appropriate storylines.
